Choosing where to give birth is just as important as choosing your baby’s name. North Valley Hospital offers quality skilled care and a comforting approach that only a community hospital can give you.

The North Valley Hospital’s (NVH) Obstetrical (OB) Program offers safe and personal care before, during, after delivery, and recovery in a family atmosphere for mother and newborn. All mothers that come to North Valley Hospital for OB services are assessed by an experienced OB Registered Nurse and then either closely monitored, admitted, or released home by a physician, with the ability to transfer the mother or newborn to a higher level of care facility if needed.

North Valley Hospital’s OB staff are highly skilled and experienced with the ability to provide a wide range of exceptional care. Our emphasis on providing family focused care to the mother’s and family’s satisfaction.

For the safety and comfort of the new mother, newborn and family, Labor, Delivery, and Recovery (LDR) takes place in one room, referred to as the LDR Room. After mother and newborn are stable, they are moved to a comfortable room in the postpartum section of the Acute Care department.

In the event of a need for a Cesarean Section, the mother is quickly moved into the Surgery (OR) where the physician and staff works collaboratively to provide safe and experienced quality care for mother and baby.

North Valley Hospital provides new parents a complementary photo listing on the Baby’s First Web Page with the parent’s names, the newborn baby’s date of birth, name and photo.

Childbirth education: Child Birth Classes is offered by North Valley Hospital during the prenatal period for mothers and their significant others. Education and informed choice is the cornerstone of care during the entire prenatal period.

Frequently Asked Questions:

"So... I just found out I was pregnant. What should I do first to make sure I get good medical care?" The first thing you should do is to call your family doctor to make an appointment to establish OB care, let them know when your last menstrual cycle started and any special health problems or family health problems that may be important.

"If I come to the hospital in labor late at night, will there be someone available to help?" There is always an OB nurse available 24 hours a day seven days a week for anyone who might need OB services, or even to just ask questions.

"I think I’m having pre-term labor, and it’s 4 in the morning. What should I do?" Call the hospital, we will ask you specific questions that might be important to let the doctor on call know before you come in. If you are having contractions, time them, we will need to know how far apart they are and how long they last. If you think your water has ruptured, check to see if the fluid is clear or have any kind of color to it. This information is very important to your health and the health of your baby.

"Can I talk to the OB nurse so I can get to know them better?" You certainly can, it's best to call before you want to come in just in case the OB nurse is busy with a delivery. We welcome any questions you may have. The better we get to know you, the more at ease you will be with your delivery.
