Laboratory

North Valley Hospital offers a full service Laboratory that is open 7 days a week and is available 24 hours a day. Walk-ins are welcome.

Regular hours are Monday to Friday 6:00 am until 6:00 pm. On Saturday and Sunday we are open from 6:00 am until 4:00 pm. After hours the lab is staffed by an on-call technologist who responds to the lab within 30 minutes or less.

Services and benefits of our laboratory:

• We offer a full line of in-house testing, ranging from simple screens for Strep Throat to complex Cardiac Markers found during a heart attack.
• The Microbiology department of the lab can set up and culture a wide variety of specimens from basic urine cultures to serious wound infections. When bacteria are isolated from specimens antibiotics specific for the infection are tested and a list of antibiotics for treatment are provided to the provider.
• Patients who are on Anticoagulant Therapy can have their “Coag” tests done here at North Valley Hospital. We offer both Protime/INR and PTT testing.
• Tests available in the Chemistry department of the Lab include STAT tests that are usually performed in the Emergency Room such as Electrolytes, Kidney and Liver functions or Cardiac markers plus screening and wellness tests like Lipid Panels.
• We’re affiliated with the American Red Cross and use only ARC Blood. The Red Cross regularly rotates a safe and secure stock of blood units through our Blood Bank. Last year North Valley Hospital transfused 121 units of packed red blood cells.
• We’re here to serve both inpatient and outpatients. Outpatients from any doctors’ office are welcome to have their lab work done at the North Valley Hospital Lab.
• Our professionals seek new ways to provide reliable, accurate, and cost-effective services to our clinicians.
• We are dedicated to providing laboratory services to meet the needs of patients, clinicians, and medical facilities in North Okanogan County.

Respiratory Care

Whether a life threatening need in the Emergency Room, providing treatments, teaching or therapies to in-house patients, or providing outpatient services for you and your family, the Respiratory Care Department at North Valley Hospital is a valuable asset to our community.

The department works closely with physicians, nurses and other departments to help provide a team approach to best meet the needs of our patients.

Examples of services provided by our Respiratory Care department include:

• Oxygen therapy
• Inhaled medication administration & training
• Chest physio therapy
• Aerosol and humidity therapy
• CPAP / BiPap (Non Invasive Ventilator Support)
• Mechanical ventilation / support
• Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• Maintenance of artificial airways
• Pre & Post Bronchodilator Spirometry and Lung Diffusion testing
• Nursing staff education and support

We encourage patients to become partners in their own respiratory health by being available to answer questions and offer direction regarding their options for care.

Nutritional Services Available

• In patient nutritional assessments, &/or discharge education as needed or indicated
• Outpatient medical nutrition therapy which can be;
  • Physician referred (With appropriate diagnosis, services are covered by most major insurance carriers)
  • Self referred (Private pay)
• Diabetes Education Program (This is a self-management education for DSHS)
• For diabetic patients a referral and assessment needs to be completed through their primary care provider)
