Do you ever find a cool rock, but then get sad you can’t keep it because it would miss its rock friends if you took it from its home?

Facility Update (2nd Try)

Last month, I wrote that we finally turned the corner with our flooding and sprinkler pipe issues, but we immediately had another huge problem. The kitchen staff did a fantastic job during the disruption, and I’d also like to thank the Community Cultural Center for accommodating us on short notice. We are back online, and I won’t make any promises or predictions about how things will go.

The construction project is moving along well, and the drywall will start going up on the second floor soon. We are getting close to moving to the first floor, which, in many ways, will be the most challenging. The work will primarily impact lab, radiology, scheduling, and billing; however, we also have work in the ED and Acute Care. As the schedule and plans get finalized, I’ll share what to expect in the impacted areas.

If you work in the Verbeck building and feel left out, don’t worry! We're starting a roofing project next week, and you can join in the construction fun!

Interim DNS:

Michelle McNally wrapped up her time last week and transitioned to her next role, and today, we are welcoming Kim Summers as our interim DNS for Extended Care. Kim comes to us from Kansas and brings lots of LTC experience into the role. We are still looking for our next permanent DNS, but Kim will help the EC Team deliver the great care we are known for.

Hospital Emergency Code Calls:

Fourteen years ago, the Washington Hospital Association (WSHA) led a group to develop the standard code calls (red, blue, silver, etc) we use today. Having the codes be the same from hospital to hospital helps ensure that everyone knows what a call means and can respond appropriately. Over the years, some organizations have added or changed codes, reducing standardization's benefit.

NVH is participating in a new effort to develop and adopt universal emergency codes for Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. The change is planned to go live in October, but before too long, we will have sample codes to share.

Spring:

I know the weather is forecasted to cool off again, but I hope every one can get outside and enjoy some of the first real sunshine of the year! Have a great week!
