Edition 8
Not this year!
Construction Update:
The second floor of the St. Martin’s building is transitioning into the finishing work of painting, trim, and casework. The company has also started work on the roof and is demoing the old units and clearing off space for the new roof units. The dates are being finalized, but we have at least two upcoming days with large cranes to lift the new units into place. We are working through the logistics, but to keep everyone safe, due to our limited space options, we will likely have significant disruptions these days, which might include some planned diversion.
We will soon start preparing for work on the first floor. The work will begin on the west side of the building and will require the relocation of the billing department.
CT Purchase:
In the Board meeting recap, I mentioned that the Board approved the purchase of a new CT unit. I’m excited to upgrade the diagnostic capabilities and transition to a new machine. Shane is working with GE to get a delivery date, which will likely be in two or three months. Decommissioning our existing unit and installing the new machine is a multiple-week process. During this time, we plan on utilizing a mobile CT unit to be placed where MRI typically is located.
Disaster Planning Drill:
On Friday, April 19th, we will be running a functional exercise practicing a mass causality event. This will be one of our larger exercises in recent years and will include mock patients and external evaluators. We hope to test our ability to handle a surge of patients, utilize the clinic for less acute injuries, track patients effectively, and communicate both internally and externally. We also are working with Emergency Management to send out a targeted alert to local residents to explain the additional activity. If you don’t get the Emergency Management Alerts, I’d recommend signing up here.
Basketball:
For the last several years, I’ve challenged my two nephews to a 1v2 basketball game. Both of them love sports, and it has been a fun annual tradition and an experiment in aging. The score has gotten closer for the last three years but I think I have one or two more wins in me. They will probably buy me a wheelchair the year I lose, but until then I’m enjoying it.
